On April 29, 2026, a regular meeting of the Advisory Council on Cultural Heritage Protection under the Department of Culture, Tourism and Religions of the Sumy Regional State Administration took place. Historical Hour “Shevchenko Days of the Ukrainian Emigration: Based on Materials from Foreign Archives”
On March 10, 2026, the Sumy Regional Universal Scientific Library hosted a Historical Hour dedicated to the birthday of Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko. A report was presented by Valerii Mykolaiovych Vlasenko, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of History at Sumy State University, and member of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine. Based on archival documents, Valerii Vlasenko spoke about the honoring of the Great Kobzar’s memory by representatives of the Ukrainian emigration, members of various public associations, and educational and cultural institutions, which confirms the consolidating role of Taras Shevchenko’s image in the formation of the national memory of the Ukrainian people.
Stage II of the All-Ukrainian Competition-Defense of Student Research Papers — Members of the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
On February 27, 2026, the Stage II of the All-Ukrainian Competition-Defense of Student Research Papers for members of the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine took place in the Sumy region. Young researchers — students of grades 8–11 — presented their own studies in history, local historical studies, ethnography, and related disciplines.
Round Table “The Potebnias. The Glory of a Cossack Lineage”
A round table discussion titled “The Potebnias. The Glory of a Cossack Lineage” was held at the Romny Local History Museum of the Municipal Institution State Historical and Cultural Reserve “Posullia”. The event was dedicated to our fellow countryman Andriy Potebnia — a Ukrainian and an officer of the Tsarist army who, in 1863, joined the Polish insurgents and fought under the slogan “For Our and Your Freedom.”
Serhii Tymoshenko – Architect, Statesman, and Political Figure
On February 4, 2026, a historical event was held at the Sumy Regional Universal Scientific Library to mark the 145th anniversary of the birth of Serhii Tymoshenko, a native of the Konotop region, a participant in the Ukrainian national liberation movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921, a statesman and political figure, a member of the Ukrainian and Polish parliaments, Minister of Railways of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, architect and artist, as well as Professor and Rector of the Ukrainian Academy of Economics in Poděbrady.
