A round table discussion titled “The Potebnias. The Glory of a Cossack Lineage” was held at the Romny Local History Museum of the Municipal Institution State Historical and Cultural Reserve “Posullia”. The event was dedicated to our fellow countryman Andriy Potebnia — a Ukrainian and an officer of the Tsarist army who, in 1863, joined the Polish insurgents and fought under the slogan “For Our and Your Freedom.”

Serhii Tymoshenko – Architect, Statesman, and Political Figure
On February 4, 2026, a historical event was held at the Sumy Regional Universal Scientific Library to mark the 145th anniversary of the birth of Serhii Tymoshenko, a native of the Konotop region, a participant in the Ukrainian national liberation movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921, a statesman and political figure, a member of the Ukrainian and Polish parliaments, Minister of Railways of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, architect and artist, as well as Professor and Rector of the Ukrainian Academy of Economics in Poděbrady.
Our Bloom Is Spread All Over the World
On January 27, 2026, an event titled “Our Bloom Is Spread All Over the World” — a historical hour — was held at the Sumy Regional Universal Scientific Library to mark the anniversaries of two natives of the Sumy region, participants of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921 and political emigrants, Ivan Kobyzkyi and Ivan Lytvynenko (Morozenko).
The life and activities of Ivan Kobyzkyi were presented by Valerii Vlasenko, PhD in History, Associate Professor, while Ivan Lytvynenko (Morozenko) was discussed by local historian and archivist Hennadii Ivanushchenko, who joined the event online from London.
The event was attended by local historians, journalists, as well as school and university students.

At Sumy State University, the results of the annual “Best Lecturer Through Students’ Eyes” competition for the 2024–2025 academic year have been announced. Based on student evaluations, students of the History programme highly appreciated the professionalism and pedagogical excellence of their lecturers.
Presentation of the Second Volume of the Scholarly Documentary Edition “Dissent in the Sumy Region. A Collection of Documents and Materials (1955–1990)”
The city of Sumy hosted the presentation of the second volume of the scholarly documentary edition Dissent in the Sumy Region. A Collection of Documents and Materials (1955–1990). The publication is part of a series of academic documentary studies devoted to the history of protest sentiments and manifestations of dissent against the communist authoritarian regime in the Sumy region during the second half of the twentieth century.

Online exhibition with excursion elements “Architectural Memory of Hlukhiv: St. Anastasia Churches in 3D”
On October 8, 2025, students of Sumy State University majoring in “Secondary Education (History and Civic Education)” and “History and Archeology,” as well as lecturers from the Department of History, took part in the online exhibition with excursion elements “Architectural Memory of Hlukhiv: St. Anastasia Churches in 3D.” The event was held as part of the implementation of the projects: “Hlukhiv Region Through the Centuries: A Digital Collection of Historical and Architectural Monuments” and “Hetman’s Hlukhiv Region: Digital Reconstruction of Historical Sites and Traditions.”
