The composition of the Coordination Council responsible for strengthening Ukrainian national and civic identity in the Sumy region has been renewed. The first meeting of the Coordination Council on Strengthening Ukrainian National and Civic Identity in its new composition was held under the chairmanship of Olena Kiriieva, Deputy Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration. During the meeting, the participants identified the main areas of work for 2026–2027.
The Coordination Council under the Sumy Regional State Administration is a permanent consultative and advisory body. It contributes to coordinating the activities of institutions and organisations involved in implementing state policy in the field of strengthening Ukrainian national and civic identity.
The History Department of Sumy State University is represented on the Coordination Council by Serhii Dehtiarov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, and Head of the Department of History, and Anatolii Honcharenko, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of History.
During the meeting, the participants discussed issues related to the protection and development of the Ukrainian language in the Sumy region. Particular attention was paid to its use and functioning in the public sphere.
Following the meeting, the members of the Coordination Council outlined further steps and tasks that will guide its activities and the implementation of measures aimed at strengthening Ukrainian national and civic identity in the Sumy region.
