On January 24-28, 2024, the Ukrainian Archery Championship among adults and juniors was held in Lviv, which gathered 248 best archers from 16 regions of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv. According to the results of this tournament, Svitlana Panikar, a student of Sumy State University majoring in History and Archaeology, took 3rd place in the team competition among junior girls in the classical bow.

Classes in the State Archive of the Sumy region
On September 22, 2023, on the basis of the State Archives of the Sumy Region, practically oriented classes were held for first-year students of the “History and Archeology” and “Secondary Education (History)” specialties.
OUR STUDENT IS COMPETING FOR THE UKRAINIAN ARCHER CUP
On June 26-30, the II stage of the Archery Cup of Ukraine – “Cup of Honored Coach of Ukraine Bohdan Kokot” took place at the “Electron” sports base in the city of Lviv. More than 170 archers from 14 regions of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv came to Lviv to honor the memory of the outstanding coach and compete in marksmanship. This year, it is the second stage of the Archery Cup of Ukraine, where athletes will compete in the Olympic discipline at a distance of 70 meters and in block archery at a distance of 50 meters.
Lecture by Azerbaijani journalist Hamid Hamidov “Ukrainian-Azerbaijani cooperation in the media sector in wartime conditions”
On April 4, 2023, students of the educational programs “History”, “Secondary education. History” and “International Law”, as well as teachers of the departments of history and international European law and comparative law attended an online lecture by the famous Azerbaijani journalist, blogger, media director of the largest media holding in Azerbaijan, “Global Media Group”, Hamid Hamidov. The lecture was moderated by Maryna Honcharuk, curator of Ukrainian-Azerbaijani projects. During the lecture, Hamid Hamidov talked about the development of cooperation between Ukrainian and Azerbaijani journalists, how it affects relations between Ukraine and Azerbaijan, why it is important to intensify the dialogue between the mass media of our countries, and what are the peculiarities of the media sector in Azerbaijan.

The results of the “Best Lecturer as Seen by Students” contest of the 2021-2022 academic year have been announced at Sumy State University.” History students highly appreciated their lecturers. Among the winners are Nataliia Viktorivna Lobko (diploma of the 1st degree), Vitalii Mykolaiovych Korol (diploma of the 1st degree), Serhii Ivanovych Dehtiarov (diploma of the 1st degree), Alla Ivanivna Ziakun (diploma of the 2nd degree). Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to the future historians for the high assessment of the lecturers’ skills.

Last year, the book-album “Serhiy Tymoshenko. The Return” about a native of Sumy Oblast, architect, engineer, statesman (Minister of Roads of the Ukrainian People’s Republic), diplomat and scientist Serhii Prokopovich Tymoshenko (1881-1950) was published in the Kharkiv publishing house “Rarities of Ukraine”. It was published under the auspices of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and was recognized by the Ukrainian PEN Center and the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine as one of the best in the field of “Art Publications” in 2022. One of the seven chapters of the book was written by our colleague Valery Vlasenko. He compiled a bio-bibliographic index of the artist’s works (364 items). On February 1, 2023, its presentation was held at Sumy State University, which was attended by teachers, scientists, librarians and students.

Head of the Department of History, Serhii Dehtiarov, live on Espreso TV
On January 13, 2023, the Head of the Department of History Serhii Dehtiarov took part in the live broadcast of Espreso TV in the regular program “NeIstfak”. The program was devoted to the topic “How the Cossack officers turned into nobility”. The discussion revolved around the transformation of social and official representatives of the former Cossack officers during the incorporation of Ukrainian territories into the Russian Empire. The significant influence of officials of Ukrainian origin on the effectiveness of the functioning of the imperial bureaucratic apparatus of the late 18th – early 19th centuries was noted.
Speech at the “Vidikon” chanel by a PhD of the academic and research institute of law
On the fourth Saturday of November, we honor the memory of the victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 and the mass artificial famines of 1921–1923 and 1946–1947. The greatest was the famine of 1932–1933 – it is called the genocide of the Ukrainian people, carried out by the totalitarian regime of Stalin. According to various estimates, about 5-10 million Ukrainians died then.
To date, 22 states have officially recognized the Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932–1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
In the context of this event, Anatoliy Goncharenko, associate professor of the Department of History of Sumy State University, spoke at the Vidicon TRC. The Sumy historian described the causes, course and consequences of the Holodomor of 1932–1933. A. Honcharenko also emphasized the important mission of historians to preserve the memory of this important page of Ukrainian history.
