From 18 to 21 September 2025, Iryna Priadko, a third-year student of the “Secondary Education (History)” programme at Sumy State University, took part in the Summer School “Lessons of Memory”, held in the village of Yablunytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk region.
The event was organised by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance in cooperation with the Partnership for a Strong Ukraine Programme, the Lviv Museum of War Childhood, the Sumy Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, the Sumy Regional Centre for Extracurricular Education and Work with Gifted Youth, and the Poltava Academy of Continuing Education named after M. V. Ostrohradskyi.
During the Summer School, participants explored the topic of Russia’s war against Ukraine, deepened their theoretical understanding of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the concept of national memory as a factor of state security in the context of hybrid warfare. They also examined modern forms of war memorialisation in the educational space and the methodology of oral history interviewing.
In addition, practical case studies were developed on how to engage middle and high school students in commemorative practices within the education system, foster critical thinking and resilience to hostile Russian propaganda, including within educational institutions, and promote Ukrainian national and civic identity.
