It is one of the oldest departments of the University. It was created in 1962. It was originally called the department of Marxism-Leninism, since 1972 – History of the CPSU, since 1993 – Ukrainian Studies, since 2001 – History, since 2014 – Theory and History of State and Law, since 2016 – Constitutional Law, Theory and History of State and Law. In 2020 the unit regained the name of the Department of History.
During its existence the department was headed by professors, doctors of science: Belikova L.Y., Kaftaryan S.M., Osadchy Yu. G., Sukhonos V.V.; Associate Professors, Candidates of Historical Sciences: Apanasenko A.P., Panchenko A.I., Nesterenko V.A., Vlasenko V.M.
Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine O.I. Piskun (1990-1994) and L.M. Mordovets (2005-2007) worked at the department.
The department has a teaching and methodological office, which contains encyclopedic reference books, scientific monographs, non-fiction, popular works in jurisprudence, world and national history, culture, literature, domestic and foreign professional scientific journals, teaching materials, programs plans of seminars, topics of control works, test assignments on subjects taught at the department.
